Should a country celebrate Independence Day

There are lot of countries in the world that celebrate their independence day ?  A nation's birthday … it is a big struggle… just like a child coming out with a struggle to become independent. And then celebrate that day of freedom every year till iternity. I found a list on wikipedia where the countries celebrate Independence Day as a national holiday.

August 1, 1291 has been declared as Switzerland's birthday. So Switzerland has celebrate over 700 birthdays till now.  The most prominent independence day is July 4. Ask a question, which country celebrates her independence day on July 4… you are most likely to get a correct answer.

I wonder, is it worth celebrating Independence Day as a National public holiday ? It is not the same as person's birthday in true sense that a country has to celebrate it annually.  I believe a country should celebrate its national day, the day when it achieves status as a "Developed Nation". The aim to achieve the status developed nation would focus the country in the right direction. And an achievement of such status is a mark for celebration for the nation. New goals should be set annually.  This public holiday celebrate will truly help the nation.
